Helping Out in Guatemala
Dr. Harty in service in Guatemala - When I went to Guatemala, our working area was located in the second largest dump in the country. Men, women and children pick through the dump daily for food, clothing and income. Materials such as plastic, glass, cardboard, copper and other metals are collected and sold for recycling on site, and the profit is used for subsistence. The smell is awful, but thousands of people live there on the dump, to pick through the trash hoping to find enough to sell so that they don't have to eat what they find in the dump.

On the right is a picture of Emily (a physician) and myself in the dump getting ready to head out after several hours of working there.

Here, Emily and the translator pray with the patient (medicine in her hands) - and then the woman turned around and prayed for them.
Helping Out in Colombia
The picture is of me with a little boy that was running around the medical clinic while his mom was being examined. He was daring me to catch him and when I did, he was laughing his head off.

This picture is my dental clinic in one of the slums of Cartagena in which we worked. I have my portable chair, and notice the unfinished ceiling that provided perfect lighting. It is a small space in a corner of the building but perfect for a dental clinic, and one of my favorite spots in the world to work.
Helping Out in Kosovo
Dr. Harty in Kosovo - I went to Kosova to start a honey bee project with Center for Global Impact, a non-profit that connects people to people through projects, opening doors for the Gospel. While there, we gave hives to a widow who lost her husband and 4 sons during the Balkan War of the 90's. Ten years after the end of the war, she is still impoverished. By investing her with four hives, she can harvest the honey and split the profits with us until we are repaid. After we are repaid, she keeps all of the hives and equipment. Then, we go to another family and do it again, lifting them from poverty, and the process perpetuates again.

In the picture is a man with whom we worked who has a wife and three young children but is also impoverished. Here we are setting up the hives.
Helping Out in Rwanda
Dr. Harty in Rwanda - This picture is of a baby that was born when we arrived at the Medical Facility. The grandmother thought that we had come all the way from America just to see her granddaughter.
